iTunes 8 Killed AirTunes
September 10th, 2008 Posted in Technology
This morning’s update to iTunes doesn’t seem to agree with my AirPort Express/Airtunes.

I’ll have to take a closer look after work.
Update:
Well I’ve run the obligatory permissions repair and even made explicit rules for iTunes through the Firewall (not that it ever needed this before). I’ve also restarted the Airport Express unit itself and no joy, still getting the same error.
Update: 19:59pm
Setting firewall to “Allow All Incoming Connections” allows it to work.
This is far from ideal!
Update: 20:02pm
Turning the firewall off then on and setting “Allow Incoming for iTunes” now works.
This is very silly. Fix it please Apple.

I’ve had the same problem. Are you running V6.3 on your airport express? I have an old iBook G4 and am running an older OS. Downloaded iTunes 8 and couldn’t connect to my remote speakers via airport express/airtunes. Uploaded V6.3 for airport (was running V6.2), and now works fine.

Yes, 6.3.
It’s funny how it needed settings to be changed on the Firewall where this hadn’t been required before (other than when I first got the Express and had to allow iTunes Sharing on TIger. Since I got this iMac with Leopard on it it ‘just worked” until the upgrade to iTunes 8.
It’s fine now, I just didn’t expect a change to the firewall to be undocumented.
